Israel Preparing For War
Israel boosted its air defenses in the north after a confrontation with Syria and Iran. Although the Israeli army refused to comment witnesses reported seeing a convoy of missile defense batteries heading north.
Israel’s defenses include the Iron Dome which is designed to shoot down short range rockets, the Arrow system which intercepts ballistic missiles outside of the atmosphere and the David’s Sling missile defense system intercepts tactical ballistic missiles, medium to long range rockets and cruise missiles fired from ranges between 40 km to 300 km. They also have a Patriot missile battery stationed in the North.
The Patriot system has been used to intercept drones entering into the Israeli airspace from Syria. The Arrow system intercepted three SAMs fired toward IAF jets by Syria air defense. This Saturday, an Iranian drone from a Syrian airbase in Homs province flew over Jordan and infiltrated Israel. It was shot down by a Israeli helicopter. The drone was recovered and it is being examined by the IDF. Eight Israeli jets launched a counter attack on the Syrian base.
These boarder attacks have been intensifying and with the recent Israeli troop movement to the northern boarder area, one can assume that these skirmishes will lead to a larger engagement.
