Testing The Editing Feature With A Stripped Down Account

This is just a test post. In Early 2018 we decided to limit the editing rules to 90 days to allow for advanced archiving of older content. We have even looked at offloading posts over 1 year old to a distributed ledger system or AWS storage to make the database server leaner and meaner. Well one day we will tackle some of those growth challenges and move images to AWS and Older content also. We have several thousand more members to go before we will need to cross these bridges.

We are way oversized for our load but that keeps speed up and a better user experience. I have noticed social media giants such as Facebook taking on average 10 seconds to load and people once complained about Stishit being slow at 2 seconds. I did complain also but 2 seconds or less for the social portal isn’t bad. We are running under one second now which is beyond fast and crazy solid from the server guys. Thanks everyone for the help resolving these lags in the code.

This is a Test Post To Test Editing. But if you read it you will see it also has some info.

This post will be published on the live server as the test server doesn’t experience the same navigation issues that some have experienced.  We have yet been able to recreate the exact issue but we have the steps down solid and will see which configuration is perhaps causing it on the live server verses test. I know everything should be the same but that isn’t the case since we rebranded and made some redirect changes. Most things are corrected but every now and then we run into a bug. Massive large website are hard to merge and rebrand. Might have been easier to just start over? Off to test again. Thanks for the bug reports everyone.

If you do read this we are making progress on coding stuff we need. Just takes some time to get all of it done and we are short staffed right now. Thanks for patience.

We were having an issue with base accounts being unable to edit posts from the https://stishit.net/my-posts/ page which is also the Post For Rewards Page. All of a users posts can be edited from here now which is good. You can see a list of your posts. If they are past 90 Days and you need to edit please use the contact form to request for edits on older content. Be patient as the team does sometimes get behind in this.

The other issue we were having really isn't big but we create a convenience button for author that allow them to see an edit button when they are viewing a blog post they created. The specific issue is when a user uses the Blog Posts in their profile to navigate and manage their posts they see they see exactly what other users see. They see a snippet and their featured image. This was designed so that if someone stumbles upon an article you have written and they like it they can then visit your profile and check out all of your blog posts to see if their is other content that they would like to read. It was never designed or intended to be your primary way to keep up with your posts or edit them. We have a specified place for creating and editing posts and it is the https://stishit.net/my-posts/ Posting For Rewards Page In the Top Navigation. One is for displaying post for other users and one is designed specifically for you to create and edit content.

Some have said we should combine them but they are 2 distinct modules and have different security permissions and there are some coding issues that we have ran into. So we create the edit this button for convenience. So if you did use the my blog posts in your profile to navigate to your posts and you clicked on your own post you would see a link that says edit this. If you have never created a blog post you will never see this link. If you are not on your blog post that you wrote you will not see this link either. If someone were to try and recreate this link and hack someones article the server will deny access. We keep them separate for more reasons other than security but security is our main focus on this. If you do click the edit this link at the bottom of your post you should be redirected to the editing page that you would get to when you clicked on https://stishit.net/my-posts/ or Post For Rewards. This was not happening for everyone. Several people mentioned this and we had 2 options. Remove the link that we made for convenience, or spend weeks debugging and fixing a problem that was only showing up on the live website and not the test site and that we had been unable to recreate.

What is the outcome you ask? I finally recreated the exact issue with a new account. From here I was able to see that are Redirect fix after rebranding could possibly be the culprit. Though this problem existed prior to the re-branding fix? I think. So that was odd. We compared about a million lines of code and finally noticed a small snippet that was different. I could kick myself because it was an easy fix. Even when I look back at a message from a member I see the issue. It was an issue to re-branding but it was a typo in a line of code that I personally coded that caused the issue. This issue has tested out appears to be corrected from all test accounts. If you are still having an issue please clear your browser cache to get the latest version of Stishit!

You should always be able to edit from https://stishit.net/my-posts/ also without issue if the problem ever occurs in the future.
